MISSION STATEMENT

DeSoto Family Theatre provides entertainment that is appropriate for the entire family. We serve DeSoto County, as well as other surrounding communities. We strive to provide an environment that is inclusive, positive, uplifting and wholesome while offering opportunities for participation and education in the art of theatre.

HISTORY

DeSoto Family Theatre was founded in 2000 with a clear purpose: to bring high quality, family friendly theatre to DeSoto County and create a place where performers could grow, collaborate, and shine. From the beginning, DFT welcomed families into the creative process, building a theatre community where generations learn from one another and create meaningful memories together.

As the organization grew, the name evolved from DeSoto Youth Theatre to DeSoto Family Theatre, reflecting what it had always been: a home for families, artists, and volunteers who believe in the power of storytelling to bring people together.

For more than two decades, DFT has become a cultural cornerstone in Northwest Mississippi. Thousands of local families have found connection here onstage, backstage, in the audience, and through the many volunteer and educational opportunities that shape our work. This deep community involvement is the foundation that allows DFT to thrive and continue offering accessible, meaningful arts experiences.

Each summer, DFT’s theatre camps introduce local youth to the joy of performance, teamwork, and creative expression. These programs build confidence, nurture talent, and create lasting memories. Whether or not students pursue theatre long term, the skills they gain in communication, collaboration, and courage serve them for life.
